In 2023 Mountsandel Discovery & Heritage Group in cooperation with Ulster University Coleraine held its inaugural Symposium.

Mountsandel Heritage Community Evening at The Sandel Centre , Coleraine Monday 16th October 2023, 7.30pm – 9pm

Join us for an evening of short talks, a Virtual Reality display and a Q&A. We will be updating on the progress that we have made promoting Mountsandel heritage – MDHG want to develop a Heritage Lottery funded project and we want your thoughts and feedback, so come along and learn more about what we have been up to and where we are going!

The purpose of the event was to celebrate the 50 years since the start of the archaeological dig at the Mountsandel Mesolithic Site and to explore opportunities to develop the site and surrounding forest and lower Bann.

Irish History Still Starts Here… Mountsandel, 50 Years On

Join us at the Riverside Theatre on Wednesday 14th June, to celebrate 50 years since the momentous discovery of Mountsandel’s Mesolithic past.

Mountsandel Discovery and Heritage Group (MDHG) and the Ulster University are delighted to present a free one day academic and community symposium to explore the importance of Mountsandel’s legacy and its potential for the future, 50 years on.

The symposium will be an exciting programme of talks, presentations and discussions, which will delve into the significance of this 10,000 year old site (the earliest known human settlement in Ireland) and what it offers to local communities today.

The symposium featured talks and panels including key archaeologists, alongside community stakeholders and representatives from the tourism sector.
